No coffee Aerobie AeroPress recommend? I am a student who likes his coffee, but only enough money to buy a machine at low prices. I ran across this on a website and I was wondering if the quality is good enough for me to consider buying one. From what I've seen it does not look like they make good coffee, which is fine with me, but is it at least enough to fill a cup?
Key questions: Do you use the AeroPress coffee, what was your impression of it, and you recommend it?
I have an AeroPress, and it is a coffee machine very well finished. There is not much coffee, but you have to fill my jar. It is not enough to share. You can also dilute the strong coffee it produces with a little hot water without adversely affecting the flavor to make it more like "normal drip coffee.
The good:
- It is indestructible
- It's super easy to clean
- It is fairly tolerant of different sizes grind (unlike, for example, a French press)
- It's fast - steep for about 30-60 seconds and plunge
The bad:
- It uses custom paper filters, but if it is a problem, you can cut yourself or wash and reuse, but it is a hassle
- It requires an external way to heat water
- There is not a lot of coffee at a time
I use mine for camping because it is lightweight, compact, unbreakable and easy to clean. At home, I prefer a French press, but it is more difficult to clean and more picky about the grind particle size.
If you want to make enough to fill a coffee mug or to share, please see the French press planetary models. See http://www.planetarydesign.us/products.h ... for more information. This is another inexpensive and robust way to make a good cup of coffee.
Another pet peeve on the AeroPress - it wrongly sold as a espresso maker. It has not and will never espresso. Ignoring this part of the package, and a great coffee machine. Also, I suggest you ignore (or at least try) the instructions on the use of water 170-180F. Use water 200F. You get a cut much better extracted.
I've never heard of, but I guess that's the French press "- perhaps. Starbuck's is usually a variety of them. Otherwise, here is a site for the one you are looking for:
