Feeling stressed at work? So do take a coffee! Now, my line of work takes me to an airport and on Friday morning at the airport can be a mess. This is the beginning of the weekend, many people return home or simply want to get away for a mini-escape, and that's exactly what it was yesterday. All flights to all destinations were full, check-in queues were massive, and many people were missing flights because of a new highway from the airport, which just opened this morning.
As you can imagine there was a lot of frustration, discontent and unhappy passengers - and who do you think they take those frustrations? You guessed it ... staff of customer service in the field, including "I" and all of my colleagues.
Now, after "disgruntled passengers Number 6" - I began to feel a tad bit stressed out and tired of being the recipient of such an attack. Some days I feel I'm just a punching bag very well paid ( Finally, I do not know about the "highly paid" bit). Anyway, mid-morning most of us as if we desperately need a good cup of coffee to help relieve stress.
Well that's what I thought until yesterday. You see I had just finished reading an article by Yuri ElkaaŻm Eating to deliver power, the day before, highlighting the negative effects that coffee has on the body if you're stressed.
Some of these are:
* Coffee actually intensifies stress causes an increase of 40% on average in the adrenaline. This results in an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, sweating, nervousness and irritability.
* Coffee also increases gastric acid secretion by 400%, contributing to gastritis and peptic ulcers.
* A British Medical Journal, coffee drinkers have a 50% higher risk of heart attack.
* Coffee causes a significant loss of nutrients - magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc and B vitamins
* Coffee is a major source of cadmium is a heavy metal that has been linked to cancer and immunosuppression.
Now, if you're a woman - the facts are even more frightening.
* Coffee is linked to cancer of the ovaries, bladder and kidney.
* According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, coffee increases the risk of miscarriage and can double the rate of only 1 cup a day!
* Coffee reduces fertility. More than one cup per day makes a woman half as likely to conceive (American Journal of Epidemiology).
So next time you're stressed - do not go for a latte, half of the CAP, espresso strength flat white, mocha, full or otherwise - because you can hold hands together in a power outlet !
Instead, to achieve a green tea that contains the natural mood enhancer theanine, which has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress and promote a feeling of relaxation.
Ahhh ... Now the thing that I'm a little research. Maybe we should give free cups of green tea for the passengers on arrival at the airport?
