Bicycle Belt

Bicycle BeltIs a belt motor bike is worth or just hype?

I currently have a bike specialized globe centrum suburbs 20 + miles bike daily.my is 2.5 years with about 20k miles on it. I'll have to replace most of the parts or get a new bike

My bike shop advised me to switch to a belt drive bike because it would make my bike maintenance lower. Both bikes are almost the same characteristics.

Personally, I never had the chance to drive one. and if I do I would have to special order because my bike shop does have or will have it in stock regularly. so I can not have a test ride.

money is not a problem. I do not want to waste my time to invest something I'll just get rid of

Is a belt motor bike worth or should I just stick with my bike and tune up

Belt drives are not really new technology. They are very common in most of continental Europe and particularly well suited for bicycle travel because they are cleaner, rust, almost no maintenance and last longer than metal chains.

The main disadvantages are:
Uncommon in the United Kingdom and the United States, therefore difficult to obtain spare parts, and
Do not work with a derailleur, so come with an internal hub gear that some people dislike.

belt is not different from electricity exchange. You do not need to lubricate the belt Tho. You will save $ 8 on a box of lubricant. I do not know anyone who changes their channel in the first 3 years if maintenance is not a problem. I'ts really all hype. Better to buy a purchase you can test. They all feel different to find one that is comfortable.

never heard of the belt motor bicycles.

but in the cars, engines must have a belt or chain to keep the engine running in sync. When it comes to cars, seat belts are less reliable, because they break if you do not replace them in time. But the chains never break 99% of the time, but are subject to stretching, but they have anyway stretchers.

Personally, the chains are working well, why go to belts?

I don, t do

ISN maintenance; t really a big problem

belts are less effective and more expensive when you have to replace

chains are $ 15 for a road [about 7,000 miles riding]

ask them what does a belt and how long it lasts
Get ready for a large number of "well it depends" and "no way to predict" answers "

chains and gears have 100 years of development, they are good enough for the weight and cost

You do not roll much. The wheels of a bicycle should last longer if you do regular maintenance. Chains and sprockets get the most wear and are not that expensive on a bike with one speed. A custom chain of short duration if it is not cleaned and lubricated regularly. I had about 3500 miles on my last string on the road bike. Single speed should last longer than that. The channels are very effective to transferring 98% or more. I would try one first.

In belt drive is quieter, cleaner and fresher look. Good topic of conversation.

Challenge Owner's bike shop to order the bike for you without any obligation that you buy. test ride, so he leaves you. Of course, a test ride will tell you anything about the long-term utility and endurance.

What you choose depends on how you're curious about new technology and its possibilities.
