Fender Belt

Fender BeltWearing a seatbelt, the police officer's perspective

We have already heard "Wear your seatbelt." Its the same old line. But riding with a police officer to scenes of accidents per day, and you'll probably change your mind real quick if you do not wear them now.

When I started in police work, I was not wearing my seat belt. At the time, there was no law that requires it. But my opinion has changed very quickly after work for a short period of time.

To begin, I discovered that some of your very minor accidents resulted in more serious injuries. A typical scenario would be someone driving on the road (doing nothing wrong), say at 35 mph. A second person withdraws in front of them at the last second, and a collision occurs. Because of the low speed involved, we do not expect casualties. However, the person doing nothing wrong and do not wear their seat belts, this is simply not true. Most of these people are transported to hospital with facial and knee injuries (such as the body moves naturally before impact).

Another very common injury that is broken wrists. You usually see the bone at the top out of the flesh on the wrist as a result of the person seizing the steering wheel during a crash in a car accident. The problem is that the momentum is so great that no matter how the person is the owner, their bodies are still in progress, go forward, which of course caused the injury. If the person would have worn their seatbelts, the body of the course would not have progressed.

An accident scene typical violent that the police see is when the person is thrown through the windshield. This happens a lot, and speed shall be 35 mph or more (in general) for that to happen. These individuals seldom survive, and if they do, there are serious consequences such as loss of arm, leg, or become paralyzed.

Two car accidents that are true stories that led to death. If the person worn their seatbelts, they would be alive today. The first involved a man and a woman driving down the road minding their own business, doing nothing wrong. When they went through an intersection for a green light, a second vehicle has been cut off from their red and rear fender / bumper. Consequently, the husband (driver) and the vehicle overturned woman. As it flipped, the driver (the husband) was ejected from the driver's door. He would have lived, but his own car landed on him, killing him instantly. The woman went literally with minor bruises.

Another accident involved a young girl coming home from work. She was not wearing his seatbelt. It was the speed limit, but because the roads were wet, it will eventually lose control over the highway and rolled his truck. She was ejected from the passenger window, and would have lived. However, the lorry landed on top of her and she died. What was even more horrible than the autopsy revealed that his death was the result of suffocation. This course was his vehicle over her. If she had worn a seatbelt, she would have lived.

My view now as an agent? I wear my seat belt for me, not law. I know that my chances of survival are significantly more if I wear it, as opposed to not wearing it. I know from firsthand knowledge.
