Is Apple iPad The perfect student laptop? Copyright (c) 2010 Titus Hoskins
Unless you have been locked in an underground bunker for the last six months, you've probably heard of the Apple iPad. This new lightweight laptop slate "by Steven Jobs, is considered by many critics as a simple oversized iPhone suffering from serious delusions of grandeur.
However, all the jokes, IPAD is the final student laptop or perfect? Careful examination of the characteristics of IPAD could answer that question. What IPAD or not, will tell you if IPAD is a device suitable for students or not?
First, lets look at some of the points IPAD main selling students who meet all of us. It is lightweight and portable, about a half inch thick and weighs about 1 ½ pounds so the IPAD can be easily carried anywhere. You will not even notice that you have in your backpack or briefcase and with over 10 hours of IPAD probably survive the longest day of school.
Secondly, it has a 9.7 inch color display touch screen, which all users of iPhone and iPod have been properly weaned. This touchscreen is very convenient especially in a quiet classroom or boardroom. The color display will also read books and magazines much more enjoyable.
Third, IPAD is also handy for web browsing, watching videos and even play games. But it is the function of reading books that could possibly be the IPAD virtual "replacement" for all textbooks. Imagine, instead of lugging heavy manual 5 or 6 of the class every day, you have stored in your IPAD - ready for access. But what about highlighting all important text with Big Red marker - there is probably already an application for it.
Now lets look at some features of IPAD does not discourage some people who could bring that apple to school. Probably one of the major drawbacks must be the lack of multitasking. If there is something a young student has learned is how to do multi-tasking. Some young people have the same point in an art form. They know how to watch a video, a text message, send an e-mail, download a movie and surf the Web ... while doing their homework.
Secondly, IPAD does not have a keyboard that could make it difficult to type or take notes long. Although this handicap will depend largely on the skill of the user, keep in mind, youth cards are easy to every new technology using the touchscreen keyboard might not be a major problem for them.
Third, IPAD does not have much in common that you can see on a laptop or even a netbook. There is no Flash that will make Web pages displayed less pleasant. There is no USB port that will not please many people, but you can use a dock connector. There is no SD card slot, step by step and full GPS HMDI. There is no camera or a webcam ... This excludes roughly sexting, parents will be relieved but seriously, a truly portable communication device should have included a webcam. Perhaps future models sport or maybe Apple gave careful thought to privacy in the classroom and school environment. Device without a camera can be more appreciated by the school authorities, if IPAD become the ultimate virtual book.
In addition, some technicians have criticized the IPAD to have a 4:3 screen, which makes it relatively square instead of a 16:9 ratio would be more ideal for watching widescreen movies. Since you probably want students reading books rather than watching movies, this is not really a design flaw.
The final consideration for most students will be price. IPAD is more expensive than a netbook, but a little cheaper than most laptops, but of course it depends on the size and brand of laptop in question. Prices for the iPad range from $ 499 to $.
