Transition Lenses

I just got transition lenses. My eye doctor says they will be as dark as sunglasses in bright sunlight. When I go out into the sunlight, they are not as dark as sunlight, could there be something wrong with the objective of transition?

transition lenses are an excellent compromise between having two pairs of glasses (one clear and one with dark tint). But they are a compromise. Transition lenses will not get as dark outside as dark sunglasses. In addition, they tend to be less dark while driving a car because the windshield blocks most UV rays of the sun that causes the lens to darken. So I think you have received unrealistic expectations about the capacities of transition lenses. No negative about them at all, but the user needs to understand their pros and cons. few things to consider:

1) they are hardly ever SUPER DARK. they become quite dark, but not super dark.

2) they do not work well when its really, really hot outside. say 95 degrees and more.

3) when they are new it may take a few days before they really work well. I do not know why that is ...

These lenses have been around a long time. They keep resurfacing under a different name. Back in the 80s they were called "Photogrey. The concept behind them is good, but there are problems with them.

The change in the input / output a sunny location is not immediate and lasts two or three minutes. That's where the danger comes in. If you enter a room with subdued light from outside so it can be dangerous, because you can not see a danger that is facing you.

Personally I think they should be banned.

Transitions are good for someone who is sensitive to light and must have a purpose that will help protect them in different lighting situations, but they will not be as dark as say a Grey lens sunglasses, they are not designed for. They get a grayscale or black medium brown. So when they are new, as noted above, they are a bit slower to change back and forth. Plus the fact that they do not do well in hot weather. I am in no way put the lens down, I have in some of my glasses. I just wish that when it is proposed that the seller is better educated or have better educate the buyer on how this lens is designed. I always let people know that this is not as dark as a pair of sunglasses separated, it is not as dark in a car because of the UV filter, and if they are looking for a "Dark" pair of protection against the sun sunlens Polorized be better for them. I samples, as well as my own glasses to show them how they evolve and the level of darkness so they can decide if it is a goal they want. We sell tons of transitions every day, more sunglasses separate .. it is just personal preference! I just think that you have not been properly educated by the person who sold you the product or maybe they did not know the product is good enough.
