Vinyl Coin Purse

Vinyl Coin PurseHandbags of my youth

You remember your first handbag? Was this something to be bought on Sundays going to church? Have you had to wait until you were "old"?

I'll be 60 this year. I raise this as a framework for the girls as they remember their first handbag. Needless to say, grow in my youth is certainly very different from the last twenty years. So my memory may not be specific about the details "mode. As another frame of reference, I provide my experience to understand the stock market "choice I had to do.

My family lived in a small town about ½ hour north of Toronto in a "new" section of houses built in the late 50s. They were semi-detached houses from $ 12,000 and we lived in a house with four bedrooms, as there were 3 boys, 2 girls and 1 set of parents. Most families living in our street are what I call "boots" or "blue collar", my father in 1958 earned an average of $ 8,800 per year. With all the basic essentials to raise a family of seven people, there was not much left for more "luxury".

Each Easter, the Easter Bunny gave the ball usually boys and girls received jump ropes. In some years, depending on how much money was available, sometimes, my sister and I got some white patent shoes and a small bag patent white Sunday school. We thought we were dead and ascended into heaven. We could not wait to wear our shoes and bring our purse and it does not matter if we were not going to Sunday school, we wore them anyway. Invariably, the shoes would be broken and the stock would fall apart. We were not too upset by that life just kept going! But for a moment, we do not think we were The Cat's Meow of fashion on our little street.

I also remember once when I was about ten years, at an "art" lesson, our teacher decided to "do" our own stock of parts. I remember it as if c That was yesterday because it was my first attempt with a needle and thread. the material of the purse was a vinyl material that has been decorated as the "blue gingham." The teacher had cut out the pattern parts . A piece like an envelope while the other piece is the rectangle. The component would once more. Honestly, I do not remember how she would close or remain closed. But the challenge was that we had to sew it back. She drilled holes on the edges and using the wool (I think I chose red), we have used the blanket stitch to finish the edges. I think I remember that I had to take home to finish. It was the most horrible year that I had never met. I could not quite get the hang of this point even if I finish it. But, alas, it ended somewhere, not sure where, because I never saw him again.

During my youth, through high school, a handbag has been seen as part of your wardrobe. My bags were first-hand shoulder as it made it easier to carry your homework (textbooks and workbooks). Since our return to school "budget is very limited, my" shop "of choice was SS Kresge (now Kmart). Choices were very limited so I had to do with your purse for All Seasons and opportunities. When I had the part-time jobs, I could buy more expensive handbags to increase my closet from high school.

As I matured, my tastes in scholarships has not changed that much. I always buy only a couple who must adapt in all seasons and occasions. If I had to count the number of handbags in my closet, I would come with 3, but I use only one constant ... ... .... can not quite bring myself to buy more to take up space in my closet. But you know what, I agree with that!
